Food Feeds Political Engagement

It’s hustling and bustling on the third floor of an Amsterdam high rise near the World Trade Centre. No less than three organizations moved into the building of the former Premsela (Design) Institute in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago.As their names reveal, food is their core business:Youth Food Movement, Food Film Festival and Food Cabinet. How is it that so many young people are passionate about food? What drives them to be actively involved in the sustainable food movement? Is it an example of new political engagement? And if so, what characterizes this engagement? In this article we reflect on those questions from an insider’s perspective.
